The SEPA Regulation currently impacts the following SEPA Countries:
SEPA Countries within the EEA – 27 EU Members
- 17 Euro currency countries:
- Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia and Spain
- 10 non-Euro currency countries:
- Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Sweden, United Kingdom
SEPA Countries within the EEA – not in the EU
- Non-euro currency
- Iceland, Norway. Liechtenstein
SEPA Countries / territories – 5 non-EEA countries
- Switzerland, Monaco, Mayotte, St Pierre and Miquelon
(EEA – European Economic Area)

Some are referring to the countries covered by SEPA as the SEPA-32 (sorry Mayotte, St Pierre and Miquelon).
Remember, remember, remember:
- While all of the above countries are impacted by the SEPA Regulation, it is only the euro payments and collection processes within / between the countries that will be impacted. For example, national PLN Zloty payments in Poland will not be impacted by SEPA. You really need to be clear about this. It is a source of confusion, and you must stress in any communications that only euro currency transactions within the above countries will be impacted
- Until February 2014 national euro schemes (payments and collections) will exist alongside SEPA Credit Transfers and SEPA Direct Debits in the above country list. After Feburary 2014, the current euro scheme will cease to exist, and will be replaced by SEPA
- Errrmmm, that is partially true – there are some exemptions which i will cover soon…
That pretty much captures the SEPA countries list – in short, all euro-currency transactions within euro-currency countries are in scope!
